The provincial government Karall II under Governor Lorenz Karall formed the Burgenland provincial government from the election by the Burgenland Landtag in the VI. Legislative period on November 4, 1949 until the inauguration of the Karall III state government on March 19, 1953.

After the state elections in 1949 , the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) had four members of the six-member state government, while the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) had two members. After the losses in the state elections in 1949, the SPÖ had to hand over a state council to the ÖVP, which now dominated the state government with an absolute majority. The vacated seat in the state government of Heinrich Knotzer (SPÖ) was subsequently taken over by Josef Lentsch (ÖVP). The composition of the state government remained unchanged during the term of office.
