The provincial government Karall I under Governor Lorenz Karall formed the Burgenland provincial government from the election by the Burgenland provincial parliament in the fifth legislative period on January 4, 1946 until the inauguration of the provincial government Karall II . After the state elections in 1945 , the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) each made up three of the members of the state government.
After Ludwig Readers (SPÖ) died in office on October 30, 1946, the previous Provincial Councilor Alois Wessely (SPÖ) took over the post of Deputy Governor on November 8, 1946. On November 8, 1946, Ludwig Peschy was sworn in for Wessely as a state councilor. Peschy resigned from his position on June 28, 1949 and was replaced by Heinrich Knotzer (SPÖ).
