The provincial government Johann Wagner I under Governor Johann Wagner (ÖVP) forms the Burgenland provincial government from the election by the Burgenland Landtag in the eighth legislative period on June 22, 1956 to the inauguration of the provincial government Wagner II on July 27, 1960.

The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) and the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ) each provided three of the six members of the state government , although the composition of the party representatives after the state elections in 1956 remained unchanged compared to the previous Karall III government . Instead of Lorenz Karall (ÖVP), who retired after three terms of office to the function of the President of the State Parliament , the long-time Provincial Councilor Johann Wagner (ÖVP) took over the office of Governor. The previous regional councilor, Johann Bauer , was also no longer a member of the regional government. For this, Josef Lentsch moved into the state government for the second time after the years 1953 to 1956, the second ÖVP post was given to Reinhold Polster, former member of the state parliament . As in the previous state government, Alois Wessely remained Deputy Governor, the previous state councilor Albin Dostal was replaced by the previous state parliament member Stefan Billes . On June 16, 1959, after 13 years of membership in the state government and being elected to the national council, Hans Bögl resigned from his function as state councilor; Heinrich Knotzer was elected to the state government for the second time after 1949.
