Lorenz Karall

Lorenz Karall (born August 10, 1894 in Großwarasdorf , † March 17, 1965 in Walbersdorf ) was an Austrian lawyer and politician in Burgenland . He was committed to the Christian Social Party , the Fatherland Front and the Austrian People's Party . From 1946 to 1956 he was the Burgenland provincial governor .

Life

As a Burgenland Croat Karall was the editor of the newspaper Hrvatske Novine , which was published in Burgenland-Croatian . From 1927 he was a member of the Burgenland Landtag for the Christian Social Party . From 1930 to 1934 he was a member of the Burgenland provincial government as a provincial councilor. In the authoritarian corporate state , he sat on the State Council from 1934 to 1938 . After the Second World War he joined the Austrian People's Party. From January 4, 1946 to June 22, 1956 he was the first elected (the second in total) Governor of Burgenland in the Second Republic . In 1956 he resigned from the political arena and vacated the post of governor for his party colleague Johann Wagner . From 1956 to 1960 he was the first president of the Burgenland state parliament . Until 1963 he remained party chairman of the ÖVP Burgenland .

He was an honorary member of the Catholic student association KaV Austro-Peisonia Vienna in the ÖCV .
