Josef Kast

Josef Kast (born March 10, 1883 in Neusiedl am See ; † June 29, 1973 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer in Neusiedl. From 1945 to 1949 he was a member of the Burgenland Landtag .

Life

Kast was born as the son of the farmer Jakob Kast from Neusiedl. He first attended elementary school in Neusiedl and then worked as a farmer. After doing his military service in Bosnia-Herzegovina between 1904 and 1907 , he took over his parents' farm in 1913, and in 1914 he was drafted again for military service in the First World War. He was taken prisoner by Russia in 1915, from which he did not return until 1918. After returning home, he worked again as a farmer and winemaker.

politics

In the political field, he was active as a councilor in Neusiedl from 1926 . He was also treasurer of the Neusiedl community from 1928 to 1932 and held the office of mayor from September 29, 1932 to March 11, 1938 . Kast had also founded the Neusiedler fruit and vegetable cooperative in 1930, was its first chairman and also served as chairman of the winegrowing association from 1930 to 1933. From December 1, 1933, he was local leader of the Fatherland Front, from 1935 district and state farmers' council. In addition, he was awarded the professional title of Economics Council in 1932 .

After the end of the Second World War, Kast was again mayor of Neusiedl between 1945 and 1950, whereby he had been appointed mayor and provisional district captain on April 13, 1945 . He represented the ÖVP between December 13, 1945 and November 4, 1949 in the Burgenland Landtag, where he acted as senior president when it was reconstituted on December 13, 1945 . Furthermore, Kast was district chairman of the Burgenland farmers' union in the Neusiedl district between 1945 and 1955 .
