Hans Sylvester (born November 10, 1897 in Nickelsdorf , † January 19, 1939 in Dachau ) was an Austrian agricultural specialist, politician ( CS , VF ) and victim of the Nazi regime. During the Austrofascism he was appointed governor of Burgenland .

Life

After graduating from high school, Hans Sylvester studied at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna from 1916 to 1923 . There he became a member of the Catholic student association KHV Babenberg Vienna in the ÖCV . After completing his studies, he was initially a land manager. In 1926 he became a district officer at the Chamber of Agriculture in Mattersburg and Neusiedl am See . In 1927 he was appointed plant cultivation inspector and in 1929 director of the Burgenland Chamber of Agriculture.

From 1927 to 1930 he was a member of the Burgenland Landtag and from 1930 to 1931 a member of the National Council . From 1931 to 1934 he was a member of the Burgenland provincial government, in 1933 he became head of the Burgenland Patriotic Front .

1934 Sylvester was from the now dictatorial ruling CS for governor appointed Burgenland and remained in that position until the 1938th

In the course of the " Anschluss of Austria " in March 1938, he was arrested as a political representative of the previous regime and deported to the Dachau concentration camp , where he died on January 19, 1939.
