Johann Wagner (politician, 1897)

Johann Wagner (born April 27, 1897 in Stegersbach ; † December 27, 1979 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( CSP , VF , ÖVP ) and governor (June 22, 1956 to August 8, 1961) of Burgenland .

Johann Wagner was a member of the Burgenland state parliament from 1927 to 1930 , and from 1930 to 1931 he sat on the National Council for the Christian Socialists . Until 1936 he was a member of the national leadership of the Fatherland Front. In 1937 Wagner was councilor of the Burgenland Chamber of Commerce and Industry .

After the Second World War he joined the ÖVP, from 1945 to 1956 he was Burgenland Provincial Councilor; In 1953 he was again briefly in the National Council. From 1956 to 1961 he finally held the office of Governor of Burgenland.

1963 to 1966 he was President of the Austrian Economic Association .

In addition to his political career, Wagner ran an inn in Stegersbach.
