Walbersdorf ( Hungarian Borbolya , Croatian Vujbrštof ) is a district and a cadastral municipality of the city of Mattersburg in Burgenland . Its Hungarian name is Borbolya.

history

Before the birth of Christ, the area was part of the Celtic Kingdom of Noricum and belonged to the surroundings of the Celtic hill settlement Burg on the Schwarzenbacher Burgberg .

Later under the Romans, today's Walbersdorf was then in the province of Pannonia .

In 1972 Walbersdorf was incorporated into the district capital Mattersburg.

politics

The head of the Walbersdorf district is Christian Ulrich from the SPÖ. Walbersdorf was also the residence of two provincial governors from Burgenland: Anton Schreiner and Lorenz Karall .
