Alois Wessely

Alois Wessely (born June 15, 1895 in Kleinpetersdorf, Großpetersdorf municipality ; † April 22, 1970 in Opatija ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and deputy governor in Burgenland . Wessely belonged to the Burgenland state government between 1946 and 1960 and was also a member of the Burgenland state parliament .

education and profession

Wessely attended primary school in Großpetersdorf and learned the trade of bricklayer. He worked in Burgenland and Vienna. In 1916 he was drafted into military service, but due to illness he was soon withdrawn from the guard service until 1918. In 1919 Wessely worked in Raab ( Győr ). After that, Wessely held various political functions until the Social Democratic Labor Party was banned. Wessely worked as an insurance agent from 1934 and from 1943 as an accountant in a timber trading company in Purbach .

During his time in Raab, Wessely was a member of the Red Army and had to flee to Bruck an der Mur or Wiener Neustadt after the end of the Soviet Republic . He became a member of the Social Democratic Labor Party and came into contact with the Burgenland state party. From 1924 he was secretary of the construction workers' union for the districts of Oberwart and Güssing , in 1916 he rose to become district party chairman for the district of Oberwart. In addition, Wessely was a member of the state party control from 1924 to 1926 and from 1930 a member of the narrower state party executive. In 1934 the Social Democratic Labor Party was banned.

Wessely participated in the reconstruction of the party and the trade union organizations from 1945 and was a member of the provisional state committee between October 1, 1945 and January 4, 1946. He was then elected to the state parliament and was a member of it until May 5, 1960. At the same time, Wessely was a member of the Burgenland provincial government between November 8, 1946 and July 27, 1960 and was continuously deputy governor of Burgenland. In addition, Wessely held the office of SPÖ state party chairman between 1946 and 1960 and was chairman of the ÖGB state executive in 1946 and between 1948 and 1953. During his political activities, Wessely promoted the expansion of the road connections between northern and southern Burgenland (B50 Burgenland Straße ) and was considered a pioneer for the independent energy supply of Burgenland through BEWAG , the reconstruction of the regional health insurance fund and the establishment of the Burgenland Chamber of Labor.

Private

Wessely was born as the son of the Kleinpetersdorf farmer Josef Wessely. Wessely was married and lived as a pensioner in Eisenstadt before his death . He died while on vacation in Istria and was buried in amber .
