The Burgenland Elektrizitätswirtschafts Aktiengesellschaft ( BEWAG ) was a power company in the Austrian state of Burgenland . The company was founded in 1958 , making it the youngest energy supply company in Austria. In 1959 it took over the power supply from today's EVN and STEWEAG .
The owner was the state of Burgenland with a 51% stake and Burgenland Holding AG with 49%. Around 150,000 customer systems were supplied, and sales in 2010/11 were 249 million euros .
In July 2012, BEWAG and BEGAS merged. From October 1, 2012, Energie Burgenland AG emerged .
The line network in Burgenland comprises over 630 km of high-voltage, 3,100 km of medium-voltage and 5,200 km of low-voltage lines. BEWAG, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Austrian Wind Power , owns several wind farms with a total of 147 wind turbines (as of early 2012), which in 2011 produced around 500 GWh of "wind power". Starting in 2012, with the realization of Wind Initiative II, there will be a further strong expansion of wind energy .
BEWAG has been a partner in EnergieAllianz Austria since February 2000 .
BEWAG is particularly committed to alternative power generation , due to climatic conditions, especially in wind power plants, such as the wind park on Parndorfer Platte or the wind park under construction in Andau / Halbturn , but also in the solar collector area.
BEWAG has been promoting poetry and prose with the BEWAG Literature Prize since 1975 .
