The genus Alatiliparis from the family of orchids (Orchidaceae) consists of five types . They are mainly epiphytic plants, they come from Java and Sumatra .

description

The Alatiliparis species are small, perennial , herbaceous plants. The pseudobulbs are close together on the rhizome , they are oval-shaped and slightly compressed at the sides. In the lower area they have a few lower leaves , further up one to three leaves . The leaves are lanceolate, pointed, and thin in texture. The midrib protrudes on the underside. At the base the leaf is narrowed into a stalk, which again widens to a leaf sheath encompassing the stem axis; There is a separating fabric between the stem and the leaf base.

The racemose inflorescence arises terminally. The peduncle is slightly angular in cross section. In the area of the flowers , the inflorescence axis is provided with two ribs or wings that carry the flowers. These sit in two lines, so that the inflorescence axis is slightly bent in a zigzag shape. The bracts are oval to triangular, asymmetrically oblique at their base, pointed at the end. The resupinated flowers measure about one centimeter in diameter. The sepals are free, oval shaped and spread out widely. The petals are shorter, very narrow, wavy and turned back. The lip is entire or slightly three-lobed, provided with a nectar gland at the base, fleshy in the lower area, thinner textured at the tip and tapering to a point. The column is slightly curved and characteristic winged in the lower area. In the end, it bears the stamen with four narrow club-shaped pollinia and surrounded by a raised edge scar . The fruit is a six-ribbed, oval capsule fruit .

distribution

The genus Alatiliparis occurs on Java and Sumatra at altitudes of 1100 to 1900 meters. The species usually grow epiphytically, sometimes also terrestrially in mountain forests.

Systematics and botanical history

Alatiliparis was first described in 2001 by Hanna B. Margońska and Dariusz L. Szlachetko . Using herbarium material, they described two new species, the type species is Alatiliparis filicornes . They later placed three other species in this genus that had been known for a long time. The name is derived from alatus , "winged" and Liparis , a related genus of orchids. He refers to the winged pillar.

The genus belongs to the tribe Malaxideae . It is unclear whether the winged column is meaningful as a genus dividing line, since representatives of the genus Liparis also show such a feature in the approach.
