Heinrich Knotzer

Heinrich Knotzer (born July 12, 1906 in Pöttsching ; † September 12, 1992 ibid.) Was an Austrian farm worker, trade unionist and politician ( SPÖ ). He was a member of the Burgenland state parliament and regional councilor in the Burgenland state government . Knotzer was married.

education and profession

Knotzer was born as the son of the farm worker Heinrich Knotzer from Pöttsching. He attended elementary school in Pöttsching and then worked as a farm worker in the Pöttsching estate. From 1932 to 1934 Knotzer worked in the Pöttsching lignite mine and from July 1934 took on odd jobs at various companies. Between 1939 and 1942 he was employed in the construction of autobahns before he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and spent the time between 1942 and 1946 in military service and in American captivity. Knotzer returned from captivity on April 6, 1946.

politics

Knotzer became involved in the union early on and from 1922 was chairman, works council and treasurer as well as shop steward of the union. Between 1922 and 1926 he held the position of chairman of the Socialist Workers' Youth in the Mattersburg district , and in 1934 he was persecuted for his political activities. After returning home from captivity, Knotzer was the state secretary of the agricultural and forestry workers' union from July 1946 and its second chairman from 1948. Between 1949 and 1958 he held the office of deputy chairman of the ÖGB- Burgenland, in 1958 he was chairman of the agricultural health insurance fund for Burgenland and from 1954 to 1969 vice-president of the Burgenland Chamber of Labor . In 1961 he acted briefly as its executive president.

Within the party, Knotzer held the office of District Party Chairman of Mattersburg in 1948. Between 1946 and 1952, from 1955 to 1957 and between 1958 and 1959 he was mayor of the municipality of Pöttsching. Knotzer belonged to the state government of Karall I between June 28, 1949 and November 4, 1949 and was sworn in as a member of the Burgenland state parliament on November 4, 1949. He was a member of this until July 27, 1960, when he waived his mandate. On June 16, 1959, Knotzer had been re-elected as regional councilor in the Johann Wagner I regional government and was also a member of the Wagner II and Lentsch regional governments . Knotzer left the Lentsch cabinet on December 18, 1962 and was re-elected to the Burgenland state parliament on the same day. From December 18, 1962, he took over the office of 2nd President of the State Parliament, from April 17, 1964 he was the 3rd President of the State Parliament. Knotzer resigned from the state parliament on April 17, 1968.
