State election in Styria 1945
On November 25, 1945, the first state elections in Styria after the war took place.
The ÖVP achieved an absolute majority with 53.0% (26 seats), followed by the SPÖ with 41.6% (20 seats) and the KPÖ with 5.4% (2 seats).
The Styrian Landtag consequently elected Anton Pirchegger (ÖVP) as the first democratically elected Styrian governor in the post-war period on December 28th . He succeeded Reinhard Machold , who had been appointed by the occupying powers in May 1945.
