The state election in Vorarlberg on November 25, 1945 was the first free state election in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg after the Second World War and the end of the National Socialist dictatorship, as well as the first election under the country's newly gained sovereignty.

After the liberation by the French allies, Ulrich Ilg was installed as President of the Vorarlberg State Committee on May 24, 1945 and appointed provisional governor on August 16. In the election he was able to defend his claim to office. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) , the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) and the Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) stood for election . After the election, despite the clear victory of the People's Party, a coalition government consisting of the ÖVP and the SPÖ was formed under the leadership of Governor Ilg. The newly elected Vorarlberg Landtag held its constituent meeting on December 11, 1945, in which Ilg was elected President of the Landtag with 25 out of 26 votes and Governor with 24 out of 26 votes.

Eligibility and votes

In the first free state election, 77,824 Vorarlberg residents were entitled to vote, of which around 67.3% were women. 15,156 people were excluded because of their membership in the NSDAP under the election law of October 19, 1945.
