Rheticus Society

The Rheticus Society is an Austrian association for the care, promotion and research of culture and the humanities, social and natural sciences, particularly in the state of Vorarlberg, with special emphasis on the Vorarlberg Oberland . The company is based in Feldkirch .

The society was founded in 1976 and named after the humanist, mathematician, astronomer and physician Georg Joachim Rheticus , who was born in Feldkirch . According to the statutes, the company's activities are independent of parties, not for profit and should be carried out with enlightened tolerance, openness and diversity.

The society publishes a series of publications in which 75 volumes have appeared so far (as of 2018). Vorarlberger Oberland was published quarterly from 1979 to 1991 . Cultural information and from 1992 to 2010 the quarterly Rheticus . From 1992 to 1997 the Kummenberg annuals were also published , financed by the municipalities of Altach , Götzis , Mäder and Koblach .

The board of the association consists of eleven members, the historian Gerhard Wanner has been managing director since 1976 .
