State election in Vorarlberg 1959
The state elections in Vorarlberg in 1959 took place on October 18, 1959. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) lost 3.3% and achieved its worst result in a state election in the 2nd Republic with 54.73%. However, due to the increase in the number of MPs from 26 to 36, the ÖVP was able to increase its number of MPs from 16 to 21 mandataries and maintain its absolute majority. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ), on the other hand, achieved its best result in Vorarlberg since 1945. It gained 3.4% and achieved 29.3% of the vote. This enabled her to increase her number of mandates from 7 to 10. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) was able to stand up to its predecessor organization, theElectoral Party of the Independent (WdU), increase and gained 1.3% and two mandates. With 14.9%, she then placed 5 mandataries. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) failed again to enter the state parliament after losing 1.4% with a 1.1% share of the vote.
The Landtag of the XIX. The legislative period was then constituted on October 29, 1959 and on that day elected the state government Ilg IV as the new Vorarlberg state government.
