State election in Vorarlberg 1984
The state elections in Vorarlberg in 1984 took place on October 21, 1984, whereby the first appearance of the Greens as a joint list of the Alternative List and the United Greens of Austria (AL / VGÖ) led to heavy losses for the other parties. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) lost 5.8% and also lost two mandates, with a total result of 51.6%, only holding 20 of the 36 mandates. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) also recorded losses of 5.1% and lost one of its mandates. With a result of 24.0%, it then placed nine members in the newly elected state parliament. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) also lost 2.0% and one mandate, sending three mandataries to the state parliament with a share of 10.5% of the vote. The Greens achieved 13.0% in their first appearance and overtook the FPÖ with four mandates. Before the consolidation of the Green Movement, the Greens started as an alliance of the more left-wing Alternative List and the bourgeois United Greens. With this, the Greens also made it into a state parliament for the first time. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ) failed again with 0.88% (−0.12%) to enter the state parliament.
The state parliament of the XXIV legislative period was constituted on November 6, 1984 and on that day elected the state government Kessler V to the new Vorarlberg state government, which succeeded the state government Purtscher I on July 29, 1987 .
