State election in Vorarlberg 1979
The regional election in Vorarlberg 1979 took place on October 21, 1979. The Austrian People's Party (ÖVP) was able to win again after 1974 and recorded an increase of 0.5%. With an overall result of 57.5%, it provided 22 of the 36 members of the state parliament as before. The Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) was also able to gain and achieved the second best election result in Vorarlberg with a gain of 1.5% with 29.0%. The SPÖ continued to have 10 members of the state parliament. The Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) emerged as the loser from the election, losing 1.4%, but with a result of 12.5% was able to keep its 4 mandates. The Communist Party of Austria (KPÖ), on the other hand, failed again with 1.0% (+ 0.1%) to enter the state parliament.
The Landtag of the XXIII. The legislative period was constituted on November 6, 1979 and on that day elected the state government Keßler IV as the new Vorarlberg state government.
