James Cameron's Avatar: The game is a third-person shooter based on the movie Avatar - Departure for Pandora (2009). The game appeared on all major gaming platforms on December 3, 2009 and has sold 3.43 million times to date (as of April 8, 2017).
Xbox 360, PS3 and PC
The story takes place ten years before the film happened. The player ends up as a soldier Ryder (either male or female) after five years of cold sleep on the moon Pandora. After a short playing time, he has to decide whether he wants to continue fighting for the future of the planet on the side of the RDA or as an avatar on the side of the Na'vi. The course of the game is largely linear, but the extensive and varied areas can be freely explored at any time. With the exception of the final level , you move as a soldier and Na'vi in different regions of Pandora and experience the background story - which is identical regardless of the selected faction - in different ways, so that a replay value is given with the respective other faction .
The RDA and the Na'vi are equipped and armed differently depending on the circumstances of the film and have different skills. In addition to the actual action, experience points can be collected through additional tasks . For example, you have to kill a certain number of enemies or explore the entire region. In order to save walking distances, GMIs (Global Mobility Interface) or trees of visions (on the Na'vi side) are distributed everywhere on the map, to which one can teleport after activating the respective GMI or tree. These portals also provide access to "Conquest". This is a turn-based strategy game within the actual game in which you have to take the moon Pandora little by little.
In addition, the game offers an interactive encyclopedia , called Pandorapedia, with detailed information on flora and fauna, geography and the inhabitants of Pandora. Background information is also activated via the RDA during the course of the game.
The game offers a stereoscopic 3D mode, which requires a corresponding 3D monitor. A free demo version of the game has been available on the Internet since mid-November 2009. At GameRadio, the title achieved a rating of 76 with a possible 100 percent.
Wii
After 2000 years of peace, Pandora is at war again. People have thrown themselves on the moon because the resources on earth have been used up. With the help of the RDA troops, they set up a camp and take Pandora piece by piece. Since this happens without the consent of the Na'vi, the inhabitants of the moon, a tribe sends its best warrior, Rai'uk, who wants to take revenge on the people. The game was rated rather negatively by Spieletipps.de .
