State election in Vorarlberg 1932
The state election in Vorarlberg 1932 was carried out on November 6, 1932 and was the fourth and last state election in Vorarlberg during the First Republic. The number of seats in the state parliament was reduced from 30 to 26.
The Christian Social Party (CSP) lost slightly and gained around 57% of the vote. Thanks to the reduction in the number of MPs, it not only achieved an absolute majority of votes, but also a two-thirds majority of the seats, but lost 3 seats and now provided 18 of the 26 members of the state parliament. Second place went to the Social Democratic Workers' Party of German Austria (SDAPDÖ), which incurred significant losses and only achieved 15.6% and 4 seats. The National Socialists rose in a landslide victory from 1 to 10.5% and thus achieved two mandates. The other bourgeois parties, the Landbund and the Greater German People's Party (GDVP), both lost votes and each achieved 1 mandate. It was the last election in which the GDVP could still achieve a respectable success. The previously completely insignificant Communist Party of Austria gained significantly in votes and, with 3.42%, did not win a mandate, but its increase in votes was noted with concern among the bourgeoisie. A high proportion of votes were invalid or empty. In the press, this was explained by a high level of dissatisfaction with the measures of the Christian social government and a low level of religious affiliation of specific population groups.
The coalition between Christian Socialists and Social Democrats was discontinued because of the austerity measures. Instead, the Christian Socials formed the state government of Ender VII with the Landbund on November 22, 1932 .
