Peter Schachner-Blazizek

Peter Schachner-Blazizek (born October 20, 1942 in Mürzzuschlag ) is a former municipal manager, financial scientist and Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) who was the 1st Deputy Governor of Styria from 1990 to 2002 and during this period also chairman of the Styrian SPÖ. His father Alfred Schachner-Blazizek was also Deputy Governor of Styria for the SPÖ.

life and career

After graduating from high school , Schachner studied law in Graz, where he received his doctorate in 1964 (law) and 1965 (political science). In 1967 he completed both legal practice and military service in the Austrian army . Schachner then worked until 1970 as a lecturer in commercial law at the University of Linz . Between 1970 and 1974 he worked in the finance department of the Graz Magistrate and then took over the chair for public finance and public finance at the University of Graz . From 1975 to 1990 he held the office of CEO and General Director of Grazer Stadtwerke AG (today Graz AG ).

After his career as a young politician in the SPÖ, he was co-opted into the SPÖ state party executive in Styria in 1978 and on September 23, 1989 he was appointed executive state party chairman.

On April 3, 1990, Schachner was elected as the first deputy governor and on June 8, 1990 as the state party chairman of the SPÖ-Styria. In 2002 he was replaced by the later governor Franz Voves as the state party chairman.
