Udo Illig
Udo Illig (born April 13, 1897 in Graz ; † January 22, 1989 there ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).
Life
Udo Illig came from a merchant family and studied philosophy, law and economics at the Karl Franzens University in Graz. He received his doctorate successively as Dr. phil. , Dr. iur. and Dr. rer. oec.
From 1927 to 1932 he was a member of the Styrian state parliament . After the Second World War he was Provincial Councilor in Styria from 1945 to 1953 and Federal Minister for Trade and Reconstruction from 1953 to 1956 .
During his time as minister, the increased aid from the US ran out in the form of ERP funds . As trade minister he tried to achieve a balanced trade policy with both the East and the West, he also criticized the overly close ties with the Americans, which led to resentment with the USA .
From 1957 to 1980 he was the owner of Schlaining Castle before it came into the possession of the Province of Burgenland .
