Rudolf Fischer (politician, 1908)

Rudolf Fischer (born on April 28, 1908 in Vienna ; died on September 26, 2001 there ) was the social democratic Austrian State Secretary in the grand coalition federal government of Raab I from 1954 to 1956 , during whose term of office the State Treaty was concluded in 1955 and the occupation troops withdrew. He was the father of Federal President Heinz Fischer , who served from 2004 to 2016.

Rudolf Fischer studied law at the University of Vienna and received his doctorate. iur. As an 18-year-old student, he joined the Social Democrats in 1926.

Active since 1945 in the Ministry of Food and the Ministry of Interior, he was in 1954 in the team of Vice Chancellor Adolf Scharf , who later became President, Secretary of ÖVP -Ressort Federal Ministry of Trade and Reconstruction .

From January 1957 until his retirement in 1973, Fischer was Section Head and President of the Federal Ministry of Transport, which was also responsible for the nationalized companies, under Ministers Karl Waldbrunner , Bruno Pittermann , Otto Probst , Ludwig Weiß and Erwin Frühbauer (all Social Democrats except Weiß) .
