Erwin Frühbauer

Erwin Frühbauer (born April 11, 1926 in Knittelfeld ; † August 10, 2010 in Villach ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and Minister of Transport from 1970 to 1973 .

Erwin Frühbauer learned the trade of machine fitter and joined the NSDAP . After the Second World War he was employed by the Austrian Federal Railways in their main workshop in Knittelfeld and in 1955 became foreman .

Frühbauer began his political career in 1948 as district chairman of the Socialist Youth of the Upper Mur Valley , in 1955 he became chairman of the personnel committee of the Federal Railway Directorate Villach (until 1962) and as vice-president of the Chamber of Labor for Carinthia in 1959.

Erwin Frühbauer moved into the National Council for the SPÖ in 1965 and was first in the minority government of Kreisky from 1970 and, after the National Council election in 1971, in the sole government of the SPÖ Transport Minister. In 1973 he resigned his office and was then regional councilor and deputy governor in Carinthia. He belonged to the state governments Sima II , Wagner I , Wagner II , Wagner III and Wagner IV . In 1988 (according to other sources, 1986) he resigned as a consequence of the scandal surrounding the Magdalen pulp mill .
