Valerie Hackl (born August 29, 1982 in Vienna ) is an Austrian manager , politician ( non-party ) and former rhythmic gymnast . From 2015 to 2018 she was a board member of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG , since January 1, 2019 she has been the managing director of Austro Control , interrupted from May 22 to June 3, 2019, in which she was an expert on the agendas of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology was entrusted. As a short-term minister, she was a member of the Federal Government Kurz Ias well as in the provisional federal government under Hartwig Löger .

Life

Hackl was Austrian national champion in rhythmic gymnastics several times from 1996 to 1998 and also took part in European and world championships. In 2000 she began studying business administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business , which she completed in 2005 with a specialization in corporate management and entrepreneurship. She dedicated her diploma thesis to the aviation industry. She completed a semester abroad at the University of British Columbia .

At the University of St. Gallen she received her doctorate in economics in 2009 with a dissertation on the subject of Social Franchising - Social Entrepreneurship : Multiplying Activities .

In 2005 she began her professional career at the management consultancy Bain & Company . In 2012 she became assistant to Christian Kern , the then CEO of ÖBB-Holding AG , and in 2014 she took over the management of corporate strategy and corporate development at ÖBB. From December 2015 to July 2018, she was a member of the board of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG alongside Evelyn Palla , where she was responsible for marketing, long-distance transport and digital mobility. In 2016, HELLÖ entered the long-distance bus business. In 2016 she designed the ÖBB Nightjet on the occasion of DB's exit from the night train business and implemented it in 2017.

By her predecessor as Minister of Infrastructure , Norbert Hofer (FPÖ), she was appointed managing director of Austro Control , where she has been on the board with Axel Schwarz since January 1, 2019.

On May 22, 2019, in connection with the Ibiza affair, she was appointed as a non-partisan expert in the Federal Government Kurz I , in which she was entrusted with the agendas of the Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology as Norbert Hofer's successor. On May 27, 2019, a majority of the Austrian National Council expressed distrust in the entire Kurz government, so that Hackl remained entrusted with official business in the provisional federal government of Löger until the new Transport Minister Andreas Reichhardt was sworn in .

For the duration of her ministerial position she was on leave of absence at Austro Control, where she returned as managing director after the end of her ministerial position. On July 1, 2019, she took over the chairmanship of the Central European Functional Airspace Block (FAB CE). At the 143rd General Assembly in July 2019, she was elected to the board of the Kreditschutzverband von 1870 .

Hackl is said to have invented the name of the political party NEOS .
