Karl Waldbrunner

Karl Waldbrunner (born November 25, 1906 in Vienna ; † June 5, 1980 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

After graduating from high school , Karl Waldbrunner studied electrical engineering at the Technical University in Vienna ( Dipl.-Ing. ). There he was already politically active as a functionary of the VSStÖ . In 1932 he emigrated to the Soviet Union and worked there in the Stalin era as a chief engineer until 1937, after which he returned to Austria, where he worked at Schoeller-Bleckmann Stahlwerke until the end of the war .

After 1945 Waldbrunner campaigned massively for the idea of nationalization  - especially in heavy industry and in the energy sector. In 1946 he was sent to Moscow as envoy and plenipotentiary minister.

Karl Waldbrunner was buried in a grave of honor in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 14 C, number 37). In memory of him, a community housing complex in Vienna was named Karl-Waldbrunner-Hof (construction from 1981 to 1984, Lechnerstrasse 2-4 / Dietrichgasse 47-49). In 2007 the Karl-Waldbrunner-Platz in Vienna- Floridsdorf (21st district) was named after him. He was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit on November 19, 1960.
