Franz Winterer

Franz Winterer (born January 11, 1892 in Vienna ; † November 8, 1971 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and Undersecretary of State for Army in the provisional Renner state government in 1945 .

biography

Franz Winterer studied law . After completing his studies, he attended the music conservatory and the officers' school. Franz Winterer was an Austro-Hungarian officer, in the interwar period military adviser to the Republican Protection Association, in World War II an officer in the German Air Force, most recently a lieutenant colonel. Due to his military training - Winterer held the rank of major general - he was appointed to the provisional state government of Karl Renner after Austria's declaration of independence in 1945 . As Undersecretary of State, Winterer was responsible for the army. After the first elections to the National Council of the Second Republic in December 1945, Franz Winterer became a member of the Austrian National Council . After the end of the legislative period in 1949, Winterer lost his mandate and resigned from the National Council.

From 1945 to 1968 Winterer was president of the ASKÖ and as such also represented on the board of the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC). In addition, Winterer was Federal Chairman of Naturefriends from 1946 to 1966 and President of the Vienna Ice Skating Club .

As a musician, Winterer was active as a violinist in the Theater an der Wien , in the Bürgertheater and in the Vienna Volksoper , as a violist in the Tonkünstlerorchester .

Franz Winterer was the designer of various military surveying instruments for use in the field and developed the "Winterer Bussole ".
