Alois Mentasti

Alois Mentasti (born February 15, 1887 in Sooss ; † April 23, 1958 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and wine maker . Mentasti was a member of the state parliament of Lower Austria and president of the state parliament, a member of the national council and undersecretary of state in the State Office for Agriculture and Forestry.

Life

Mentasti completed an apprenticeship as a painter after attending primary school and then went on a journey through Europe. After his return in 1909 he worked as a painter and in 1918 took over his parents' winery.

From 1919 to 1934 he was a member of the local council and deputy mayor of Sooss. He also represented the Social Democratic Labor Party from May 20, 1927 to February 16, 1934 in the Lower Austrian state parliament. In addition, Mentasti was a state councilor for farmers between 1922 and 1934. Mentasti lost his mandate as a result of the Austrian Civil War and the ban on the Social Democratic Workers' Party in Austria, and he was arrested in 1934 and again in 1944.

After the end of the Second World War, Mentasti took on the role of chairman of the Austrian Labor Farmers' Union between 1945 and 1958, a position he had already held from 1923 to 1934. In addition, he was mayor of Sooss from 1945 to 1955 and then municipal councilor until 1958. Within the party, he worked between 1946 and 1953 as a member of the party executive of the SPÖ and was vice-president of the State Chamber of Agriculture for Lower Austria from 1945 to 1950.

Mentasti was Undersecretary of State in the State Office for Agriculture and Forestry from April 27, 1945 to December 20, 1945 and again represented the SPÖ in the Lower Austrian Landtag between December 12, 1945 and November 5, 1949. He also held the office of 2nd President of the State Parliament from December 12, 1945 to July 6, 1949. Thereafter, Mentasti was a member of the National Council between November 8, 1949 and March 18, 1953.
