Max Eibegger

Max Eibegger (born April 26, 1901 in Sachendorf ; † May 4, 1969 in Knittelfeld ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1945 to 1966 he was a member of the Austrian National Council and in 1959 State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for National Defense .

Life

After primary school, Eibegger attended a commercial training school and between 1915 and 1919 worked as an intern or civil servant at Austria Email in Knittelfeld. He then worked from 1919 to 1930 as an accounting and administrative clerk at the Austrian Federal Railways and then took over the role of the administrative board of the municipality of Knittelfeld between 1930 and 1934. As a result of the Austrian Civil War, Eibegger was retired in 1934 as city councilor. From 1937 he worked as the managing director of the Upper Styrian Housing Cooperative.

Eibegger was arrested several times for political reasons. He was in custody in 1933, served in judicial custody in 1934 and in the Wöllersdorf detention camp, and was again in custody from 1936 to 1937. After the National Socialists came to power, he was also in Gestapo detention in 1938 and 1944.

Eibegger became a member of the Social Democratic Party in 1919 and was a local councilor in Knittelfeld from 1928 to 1932. After the Second World War he became a member of the SPÖ in 1945 and in 1945 took over the function of chairman of the liberation committee in Knittelfeld. Furthermore, he worked as chairman of the SPÖ district organization Knittelfeld-Judenburg-Murau and within the party was also a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Styria. He represented the SPÖ from December 19, 1945 to March 30, 1966 in the National Council and was also the successor to Karl Stephani from July 16, 1959 to October 19, 1959, State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for National Defense .
