Ferdinand Graf
Ferdinand Graf (born June 15, 1907 in Klagenfurt , † September 8, 1969 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).
Life
The trained electrical engineer was involved early on in the Christian Social Party and later in the Fatherland Front . After the National Socialists came to power , he was arrested and held in the Dachau concentration camp from 1938 to 1940 .
In 1945, Graf became State Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior and a member of the Federal Council until 1949 . From 1949 to 1962 he was a member of the National Council .
Finally, in 1956, he became the first Austrian defense minister of the Second Republic . He held this office until 1961.
Graf was a member of the student associations Karantania Klagenfurt in the Mittelschüler-Kartell-Verband (MKV) and Babenberg Klagenfurt in the MKV.
He was an honorary member of the Catholic student associations KÖStV Traungau Graz and KÖStV Nibelungia Vienna in the ÖCV .
Awards
- 1954: Large silver medal of honor with the star for services to the Republic of Austria
- 1959: Large gold medal on ribbon for services to the Republic of Austria
