Alfred Grünberger
Alfred Grünberger (born October 15, 1875 in Karlsbad , Austria-Hungary , † April 25, 1935 in Paris ) was an Austrian civil servant, politician and diplomat.
Life
Alfred Grünberger was the son of a spa doctor and learned several languages at a young age. He studied Jus at the Charles University in Prague . In 1898 he entered the Austrian civil service as a concept trainee at the Lieutenancy in Prague and in December 1898 was assigned to the exhibition commission for the Paris World Exhibition in 1900 under Wilhelm Exner due to his language skills . From 1901 to 1918 he was a concept officer in the Ministry of Commerce, where he was temporarily subordinate to Johann Löwenfeld-Russ . When Löwenfeld-Russ became State Secretary for People's Nutrition in October 1918 , he appointed him to the State Office for People's Nutrition, where he became head of the newly created group abroad, which negotiated with the Entente and the neutral states about food deliveries to Austria.
From July 9, 1920 to November 20, 1920, Grünberger Löwenfeld-Russ succeeded him as interim head of the State Office for People's Nutrition. From November 20, 1920 to May 31, 1922, he headed the department now renamed the Federal Ministry for People's Nutrition as Federal Minister.
In addition, from October 7, 1921 to May 31, 1922, he held the office of Federal Minister for Trade and Commerce, Industry and Buildings . From May 31, 1922 to November 20, 1924 he was Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs while Ignaz Seipels was Chancellor and was considered Seipel's assistant. Grünberger was close to the Christian Social Party .
From November 1925 to June 1925 he was first section head in the Foreign Ministry. He was then from 1925 to 1932 envoy and plenipotentiary minister in Paris and Madrid . Seipel's death triggered his resignation.
From 1932 he was director of a French industrial company in Paris.
Grünberger was married and had two children.
