Wilhelm Taucher (born May 26, 1892 in Fürstenfeld , † April 18, 1962 in Graz ) was an Austrian economist, university professor and minister in the authoritarian corporate state .

biography

Wilhelm Taucher attended grammar school in Graz with a high school diploma in 1911. Interrupted by military service in World War I, he studied law and political science at the University of Graz and was awarded a doctorate there in 1918. iur. PhD. He then worked for the Chamber of Commerce, Commerce and Industry of Styria . He completed his habilitation in 1923, initially taught finance and economics at the University of Graz as a private lecturer, and was appointed associate professor there in 1929. From 1935 he advised the governor of Styria. He was a member of the Styrian Landtag from 1934 to 1936. Taucher was appointed Federal Minister for Trade and Transport in the Federal Government of Schuschnigg III during the period of Austrofascism in 1936 , from which he resigned in February 1938.

After the annexation of Austria , he lost his professorship and did military service again from 1940 during the Second World War. After its end, in 1945 he received a full professorship for economics and economic policy at the University of Graz, where he was rector in 1954/1955.

From 1949 to 1953 he also served as a representative for the Marshall Plan .

Honors

  • Awarded the Grand Cross of the Austrian Order of Merit in 1937
  • Honorary citizen of the city of Graz in 1952
  • A street in his birthplace bears his name.
