Hans Pernter (born October 3, 1887 in Vienna , † July 25, 1951 in Bad Ischl ) was an Austrian civil servant, politician and minister of education.

Life

Hans Pernter was the son of the university professor for meteorology Josef Maria Pernter . After attending grammar school in Döblingen , Hans Pernter studied physics and geography at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1911 . He initially worked as a university assistant. During the First World War he served in the field service of the aviation force from 1914 to 1918 .

From 1920 to 1922 Pernter worked in the Ministry of Commerce. From 1922 he was secretary to the Minister of Education. In 1925 he was appointed Ministerialrat , and in 1932 head of the section . From 1932 to 1934 he headed the arts section and the federal theater .

From July 29, 1934 to May 14, 1936 he was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, and from May 14, 1936 to March 11, 1938 Federal Minister of Education.

In April 1936 Pernter became their deputy Reichsführer as part of the transformation of the Ostmärkische Sturmscharen into a purely cultural-political organization. In July 1936 he was appointed to the leadership council of the Fatherland Front .

After the “Anschluss” of Austria , Pernter was deported to the Dachau concentration camp on May 24, 1938 and later temporarily transferred to the Flossenbürg concentration camp . Released in October 1940, he had contact with circles of the Austrian resistance against National Socialism . After the unsuccessful assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 , he was arrested by the Gestapo and taken to Mauthausen concentration camp . In January 1945 he was transferred to Vienna to be tried by the People's Court . On April 6, 1945, shortly before the liberation of Vienna by the Red Army , he was unexpectedly released.

On April 17, 1945 Pernter was one of the co-founders of the ÖVP in the Vienna Schottenstift , of which he became the managing party chairman. After the war he again took over the arts section in the Ministry of Education as section head.

From 1945 to 1949 he was a member of the Austrian National Council .

He was a member of KaV Norica Wien Norica Wien in the ÖCV and founder of KaV Marco-Danubia Wien .

Private

In 1914, Hans Perner married Isabella Ebenhoch, a daughter of Alfred Ebenhoch . The marriage had three children.
