Leopold Waber (born March 17, 1875 in Mährisch-Neustadt , Moravia , † March 12, 1945 in Vienna ) was an Austrian lawyer and politician ( GDVP ).

Life

After completing his Matura in Kremsier , Leopold Waber studied law at the University of Vienna . In 1898 he joined the Austrian financial service. In 1907 he received his doctorate . He was chairman of the German Volksbund and vice-president of the Association of State Officials.

From 1911 to 1918 Leopold Waber was a member of the Reichsrat , 1918/1919 a member of the Provisional National Assembly of German Austria and 1919/2020 a member of the Constituent National Assembly . At the same time he was Undersecretary of State in the Renner I state government from October 30, 1918 to March 15, 1919 . In 1921 he succeeded Franz Odehnal as a member of the National Council for the Greater German People's Party (GDVP) .

In a coalition government of the Christian Social Party with the Greater German People's Party , he became Minister of the Interior of the Federal Government Schober I in 1921 . He resigned at the beginning of 1922 because Federal Chancellor Schober concluded the Treaty of Lana with Czechoslovakia without consulting his party , but a few months later he became Minister of Justice of the Republic of Austria in the Seipel I government . From November 20, 1924 to October 20, 1926, Waber was Vice Chancellor under Federal Chancellor Rudolf Ramek (see Federal Government Ramek I and Ramek II ). 1926–1930 he was the third president of the National Council .
