Federal Government of Ramek I

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The federal government of Ramek I was in office from November 20, 1924 to January 15, 1926. The head of government was Rudolf Ramek .

On November 7, 1924, the Seipel Federal Government announced its resignation, the immediate cause of which was a railroad workers' strike. After an agreement was reached with the railroad workers on November 11th, Ignaz Seipel was charged with forming a new government. However, he only wanted to continue when he was certain that he would be able to continue his restructuring policy in accordance with the Geneva Protocols . For this, the participation of the federal states in the redevelopment policy was necessary. After he was confronted with fierce resistance from his own Christian Social Party , especially from the federal states, Seipel put aside the task of forming a government.

Unsurprisingly, his proposal for his successor as Federal Chancellor fell on Rudolf Ramek. This had already been Secretary of State and Minister of the Interior, was one of the beginning of the Austrian parliament and was state party chairman of the Christian Social in Salzburg and therefore was considered to be representative of the country. But he was also an absolute confidant of Seipel and thus guaranteed the continuation of Seipel's restructuring policy. With the entry of Ramek and Jakob Ahrer (as finance ministers) into the federal government, it was given the name of the state cabinet . The Greater Germans decided to remain in the coalition.
