The Austrian federal government Raab III was formed after the National Council election on May 10, 1959 . In this election, the SPÖ received around 45,000 more votes than the ÖVP , which nevertheless achieved one more mandate than its coalition partner and therefore continued to provide the chancellor. The later Federal Chancellor, Bruno Kreisky , who has served for the longest time to this day , became a minister in this government for the first time due to the SPÖ's election success and took over the Foreign Ministry from Leopold Figl , who finally resigned after 14 years of almost uninterrupted membership in the government.

Federal President Adolf Schärf appointed the Raab III cabinet on July 16, 1959 . It was in office until November 3, 1960 , when the government resigned and was reappointed by the Federal President practically unchanged. Raab IV was only to officiate for 159 days before the ÖVP changed the chancellor.
