Eduard Weikhart

Eduard Weikhart (born November 21, 1905 in Vienna , † July 25, 1986 in Bruck an der Mur ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).

Life

Eduard Weikhart attended the Höhere Technische Bundeslehranstalt Mödling , Mechanical Engineering Department, in Mödling near Vienna and initially worked in the automotive industry as a buyer.

Weikhart began his political career with the Federation of Industrial Employees, where he was a functionary from 1923 to 1934. During the time of Austrofascism , he worked underground for social democracy.

After the Second World War he became district party chairman of the SPÖ in Vienna- Liesing and held this position for 30 years until 1975.

At least from 1966 to 1968 he was head of the motor vehicle service at the General Directorate of the Austrian Federal Railways , but relieved of his position in 1966 as State Secretary and in 1968 as a member of the National Council. He carried the official title of Federal Railway Central Inspector (salary group IXb).

From 1947 to 1970 he was also a member of the SPÖ's Viennese party executive. Weikhart was a member of the SPÖ in the National Council for more than 25 years - from 1956 to 1966 he served as State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Trade and Reconstruction in the governments of Chancellors Julius Raab , Josef Klaus and Alfons Gorbach .

Weikhart was buried at the Rodaun cemetery. In Vienna-Liesing an urban residential complex , the Eduard-Weikhart-Hof , was named after him.
