Hannes Weninger (born May 10, 1961 in Neunkirchen ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 1997 to 2008 he was a member of the state parliament of Lower Austria and from 2008 to 2017 a member of the Austrian National Council . Since 2018 he has been a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament again.

education and profession

Hannes Weninger attended elementary school in Würflach from 1967 to 1971 and then the secondary school in Ternitz until 1975 . He then graduated from the Mödling Higher Technical College for Electrical Engineering and then did his community service at the Red Cross Neunkirchen.

Weninger worked in 1981 for the Vienna Post and Telegraph Administration and was an electrical engineer at Brown Boverie AG in Wiener Neudorf . Between 1982 and 1985 he was the state secretary of the Socialist Youth of Lower Austria in Vienna and then until 2003 the regional office manager of the Karl Renner Institute Lower Austria. In addition, he worked as education secretary and international secretary of the SPÖ Lower Austria and as regional office manager of the Dr. Karl Renner Institute in Lower Austria. From 2003 to 2008 he was club chairman of the SPÖ in the Lower Austrian state parliament.

Weninger began his political career as an employee of the Socialist Youth (SJ) and the SPÖ in Würflach and Gießhübl and held the office of regional chairman of the SJ Lower Austria and the deputy federal chairman of the SJ. He was also a councilor in Gießhübl between 1985 and 2005 and has been a managing member of the council since 2005. Between 1997 and 2008 he represented the SPÖ in the Lower Austrian state parliament and was club chairman from 2003 to 2008. Within the party, Weninger has also been the district chairman of the SPÖ Mödling since 1999 and a member of the state party executive and board of the SPÖ Lower Austria. After the Lower Austrian state elections in March 2008, Weninger moved up to the National Council on April 9, 2008 and was re-elected to parliament on October 28, 2008 as the top candidate for the constituency of the Vienna area. He acts within the party as the SPÖ environmental spokesman and has been a member of the Congress of Municipalities and Regions of the Council of Europe and the Committee of the Regions since 2010 as a representative of the Austrian Association of Municipalities .

Private

Weninger is widowed and has a son and a daughter.
