Martin Michalitsch (born May 13, 1961 in Vienna ) is a Lower Austrian state politician ( ÖVP ). From June 23, 2009 to September 2019 he was mayor of Eichgraben .

Life

After graduating from high school in Sankt Pölten , he studied law at the University of Vienna from 1979 to 1983 . Since 1979 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KaV Norica Vienna in the ÖCV .

He lives in Eichgraben , in the Sankt Pölten district, is married and has two sons.

He has been working in the Lower Austrian Provincial Service since 1984 and is also head of the “Health and Safety at Work” division. In the meantime, he also worked as an assistant and lecturer for constitutional and administrative law at the University of Vienna and worked as a club lawyer for the regional parliamentary club of the Lower Austrian People's Party.

Political career

Since 1993 he has been a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament. In the state parliament he is chairman of the constitutional committee of the state parliament and a member of the audit committee and the environment committee. Michalitsch is also the executive chairman of the club of ÖAAB members in the state parliament.

The political focus of his activities are the concerns of the city of St. Pölten, such as the expansion of the Lower Austrian regional clinic and better transport projects, such as better commuter traffic on the Western Railway. He is also committed to maintaining the Mariazellerbahn , building the Traisental Schnellstraße S34 , Traisental Straße B334 and various road safety projects . As the constitutional spokesman for his party, he also advocates more understandable laws and an efficient Lower Austrian provincial administration.

In July 2019, he announced that he would no longer run for mayor in the next election. The Eichgraben People's Party nominated Georg Ockermüller as his successor, the election in the local council took place on September 4, 2019.
