Gerhard Karner (born November 13, 1967 in Melk ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Karner has been a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament since 2003 . From 2003 to 2015 he was regional manager of the People's Party of Lower Austria (VPNÖ), and since 2015 he has been the second president of the state parliament and mayor of Texingtal .

Life

After his youth in St. Gotthard (municipality of Texingtal) and attending the Stiftsgymnasium Melk , which he graduated with the Matura, Karner studied business administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . He then worked in the private sector and worked from November 1996 to February 2000 as a press officer for ÖVP Lower Austria. He then worked from February 2000 to April 2003 as press spokesman for Interior Minister Ernst Strasser and in April 2003 took over the position of regional manager of the ÖVP Lower Austria.

Karner has been politically active as a local councilor in Texingtal since 1995 , and has represented the ÖVP in the state parliament since April 24, 2003. Karner is the security spokesman for the ÖVP state parliament club.

He has been the mayor of Texingtal since 2015 .
