Christoph Kainz (born April 27, 1967 in Mödling ) is an Austrian civil servant and politician ( ÖVP ). Since April 2013 he has been a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament. From 2002 to 2008 he was a member of the National Council and from 2009 to 2013 he was a member of the Federal Council . Since 1997 he has been the mayor of the market town of Pfaffstätten .

education and profession

Christoph Kainz attended elementary school in Pfaffstätten from 1973 to 1977 and then attended secondary school in Baden near Vienna . In 1981 he moved to the higher technical college in Mödling , where he graduated from the carpentry and interior design department with the Matura in 1985. Between 1985 and 1986 he did military service .

Kainz worked between 1986 and 1990 as an employee of the federal states of insurance in the field service and in 1990 moved to the Lower Austrian state government in the youth department. He has been on leave there since 2002.

politics

Kainz was local chairman of the young ÖVP Pfaffstätten between 1984 and 1990 and district chairman of the young ÖVP Baden from 1985 to 1989. In 1990 Kainz moved to the Pfaffstätten municipal council, to which he is still a member, and in 1997 he was elected mayor of the market town. He has been parish party chairman of the ÖVP Pfaffstätten since 1997 and was elected district party chairman of the ÖVP Baden in 2000.

From 2002 to 2008 Kainz was a member of the National Council of the XXIII. Legislative period and member of the committees for tourism, transport, agriculture and forestry, culture and the environment. From February 2009 to April 2013 he was a member of the Federal Council. Kainz has been a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament since April 2013.

In 2016 he became President of the Lower Austrian Civil Protection Association, of which he had previously been Vice President since 2014.

For the state election in Lower Austria on January 28th 2018 , Kainz was nominated as the top candidate of the People's Party in the Baden district. In 2020 he was succeeded by Andreas Steiner as district chairman of the Lower Austrian Workers' Union (NÖAAB) in the Baden district.

Private

Kainz has been married since 1993 and has three daughters. He is an active member of the Pfaffstätten volunteer fire brigade and currently holds the rank of honorary chief fire officer .
