Gerhard Schödinger (born December 20, 1962 in Hainburg an der Donau ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and civil servant.

From 2013 to 2017 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council for Lower Austria . Since December 2017 he has been a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament .

education and profession

Schödinger attended elementary school in Wolfsthal from 1969 to 1973 and the grammar school in Bruck an der Leitha from 1974 to 1977 . He then attended the agricultural college in Obersiebenbrunn , which he successfully completed in 1980. After a further educational path, Schödinger worked from August 1985 to October 1995 as a customs officer for the financial administration for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. He then worked as a gendarmerie officer at the Berg gendarmerie post and at Hainburg an der Donau between 1995 and 2003 before he was promoted to head of the Austria-Slovakia Police Cooperation Center of the Burgenland Police Department. Schödinger worked in this function until 2013 and was released from work as an officer in the police service when he took over the Federal Council function.

Politics and functions

Gerhard Schödinger worked for the Young People's Party early on , but then ended his political activity again. It was not until 1997 that he returned to politics as a councilor in Wolfsthal. As a result, he was elected party chairman of the ÖVP Wolfsthal in 1999 and mayor of Wolfsthal in 2005. In 2012 he took over the function of district party chairman of the ÖVP Bruck an der Leitha and became Federal Councilor on April 24, 2013. In 2007 he was awarded the 1st Centrope Prize for his “years of integration efforts and intensive cooperation with the Slovak capital, Bratislava”. He also succeeded in connecting the municipality of Wolfsthal and the neighboring city of Hainburg to the city bus network of the city of Bratislava. His very open and well-known politics far beyond the borders of Austria has brought him and his community of Wolfsthal media reports far beyond the borders of Europe. Schödinger mentions becoming a member of the Committee for the European Union as his goals for the Federal Council, in order to be able to further intensify his previously cultivated cross-border policy. From 2015 he was chairman of the committee for internal affairs in the Federal Council.

In December 2017, Schödinger succeeded Lukas Mandl as a member of the Lower Austrian state parliament .
