The Eyregrasschlüpfer ( Amytornis goyderi ) is a bird of the family of the Wrens .

description

The 14 centimeter tall bird has brown back and head plumage with white stripes. The tail is dark brown to black. The beak and legs are colored gray. The bird also has several black stripes under the eye. The birds have small, receded wings that make it difficult for them to fly.

Distribution and way of life

This species only occurs around Lake Eyre in the Simpson Desert , South Australia. She lives there in the sand dunes overgrown with dense spinifex grass. Birds eat mainly small insects and plant seeds.

Reproduction

The spherical nest, which is flattened towards the top, consists of interwoven grasses. The exact number of eggs, probably up to four, and the exact breeding and nestling times are not known.

Danger

The threat to birds includes a. feral domestic cats which destroy the brood of birds. The IUCN classifies this species as Least Concern due to its wide range .
