Karl Stephani
Karl Stephani (born June 8, 1916 in Vienna ; † July 27, 1994 ) was an Austrian officer and politician of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). From 1956 to 1959 he was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for National Defense .
Life
Stephani attended middle school in Vienna and then joined the army of the First Republic . During World War II he was a lieutenant in the armored force . After returning from American captivity , he began studying law at the University of Vienna , where he in 1948 to Dr. jur. PhD . Parallel to his studies, he worked in the Austrian Federal Service, from 1950 in the General Directorate for Public Security .
By June 29, 1956 he was Chancellor Julius Raab with swearing in of the federal government Raab II First Secretary in the Federal Chancellery for matters of national defense. Under Defense Minister Ferdinand Graf , he became State Secretary on July 15, 1956 in the Federal Ministry for National Defense, which was again set up as a separate ministry after the occupation . He held this office until the federal government of Raab III was sworn in on July 16, 1959. Max Eibegger succeeded him as State Secretary in the Defense Ministry .
Stephani died in 1994 at the age of 78.
