The Austrian federal government Raab II was put together after the National Council election on May 13, 1956 , in which the ÖVP won eight seats at the expense of the FPÖ , the SPÖ one at the expense of the communists . Federal President Theodor Körner appointed the ÖVP-SPÖ coalition government on June 29, 1956. In autumn of the same year the government had to cope with the foreign policy consequences of the Hungarian attempt at revolution , which included strict military neutrality and extensive humanitarian aid to refugees.
On May 5, 1957, Vice Chancellor Adolf Schärf was elected as the new Federal President and moved to this office on May 22. He was followed by Bruno Pitter man as vice-chancellor after up 1966th
The Raab II government resigned on May 12, 1959, two days after the 1959 National Council election. She was entrusted by Federal President Adolf Schärf with the continuation of the business until the next government was formed, which ended on July 16, 1959. With this, Leopold Figl resigned from the federal government after 14 years of almost uninterrupted membership since 1945.
