Werner Fasslabend (born March 5, 1944 in Marchegg ) is an Austrian lawyer and politician ( ÖVP ). Fasslabend was Federal Minister for National Defense from 1990 to 2000 and a member of the Austrian National Council from 1987 to 1990 and from 2000 to 2007 . Between 2000 and 2002 he also held the office of Third President of the National Council.

Life

Werner Fasslabend visited the Theresianum in Vienna and passed the school leaving examination in 1963. He then studied English, French, Spanish and history at the Wilbraham Academy in Massachusetts , USA, from 1963 to 1964 . In addition, Fasslabend studied law at the University of Vienna from 1964 to 1970 and obtained his doctorate in 1970. iur. From 1970 to 1990 he was employed by the Henkel company , most recently as head of department.

He began his political career at the ÖVP Marchegg and the ÖAAB . From 1987 to 2007 Fasslabend was a member of the National Council (interrupted by his ministerial work), from 2000 to 2002 he was the third president of the National Council .

From 1990 to 2000 Fasslabend was Federal Minister for National Defense . He advocated active participation by Austria in a European security policy .

From 1997 to 2003 he was federal chairman of the ÖAAB. Since 2004 he has been President of the Political Academy of the ÖVP.

Fasslabend has been a member of the K.Ö.St.V. since 1959. Leopoldina Gänserndorf in the MKV and since 1995 member of the MKV association Nordmark Hohenau .

He did not have to do military service due to his being unfit .
