Johann "Hannes" Farnleitner (born April 5, 1939 in Weikersdorf am Steinfelde ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

Life

Johann Farnleitner grew up in simple rural circumstances and had to finance his law studies at the University of Vienna as a student trainee (including as a surveyor). From 1964 he was employed by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce . From 1992 to 1996 he was Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce. Farnleitner also held top positions for many years in the Austrian and international Catholic men's movement , while he is rather critical of the ÖCV .

From 1996 to 2000 he was Federal Minister for Economic Affairs . Farnleitner published memoirs in 2004 ( joy in reform pays off. Responsibility for Austria , Vienna, Media Consulting).

He is also on the board of directors at Bank Medici , which got into massive difficulties at the end of 2008 due to the fund business with Bernard L. Madoff .
