Helga Konrad
Helga Konrad (born January 10, 1948 in Graz ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ).
After graduating from high school in 1967, she studied Romance and English at the University of Graz and at the Sorbonne in Paris. After receiving his doctorate in 1975 to become a Dr. phil. she worked from 1977 to 1980 in the education department of the Styrian Chamber of Labor . From 1980 to 1993 she was the managing director of the Styrian cultural initiative . From 1993–95 she was a city councilor in Graz, and from 1995–1997 federal women's chairwoman of the SPÖ. In the years 1990–93, 1996 and 1997–99 Konrad was a member of the National Council . From 1995 to 1997 she was Minister for Women . During her tenure, she started the campaign Whole Men Do Half-Half , which caused a great deal of excitement in Austria: The idea behind it was to establish a partnership-based division of care work through legal measures in family and marriage law.
From 2000 to 2004 she was Chair of the EU Stability Pact Task Force against Trafficking in Human Beings for South-Eastern Europe and from 2004 to 2006 she held the position of Special Representative in the fight against human trafficking of the OSCE .
