Josef Ostermayer (born March 12, 1961 in Schattendorf , Burgenland ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). From 2008 to 2013 he was State Secretary , then Federal Minister in the Austrian Federal Chancellery until 2016 .

Life

After graduating from the Bundesrealgymnasium Mattersburg , Ostermayer began studying law and graduated in 1985 as Dr. iur. from. From 1987 he worked as a legal advisor and representative at the Austrian Tenants' Association , where he became a senior lawyer in 1988, and in 1994 he was appointed managing director of wohnfonds_wien (formerly the Vienna Land Provisioning and Urban Renewal Fund ). On September 14, 2016 it was announced that Ostermayer will be one of four board members of Sozialbau AG , a non-profit housing construction company, from November 1, 2016 .

Private

Josef Ostermayer is married to a teacher, he has a daughter and a son.

A great uncle of Ostermayer is Josef Grössing . Grössing was a brother of Ostermayer's grandmother and was shot dead by members of the front-line fighters in Schattendorf in 1927 at the age of six as part of a confrontation between the Republican Protection Association and the Association of German-Austrian soldiers. The acquittal of the accused in the so-called “ Schattendorfer Verdict ” subsequently led to the Vienna Justice Palace fire .
