Otto Bauer badge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Otto Bauer plaque for services in the fight against right-wing radicalism and fascism is an Austrian award and was donated in 1969 by the Association of Socialist Freedom Fighters . Otto Bauer was a leading theorist of Austromarxism and fought against authoritarian, dictatorial and fascist tendencies in politics throughout his life. In February 1934, he and his comrades failed in the fight against Austrofascism and had to flee abroad. In exile he and others established the diplomatic mission of the Austrian socialists abroad . On July 5, 1938, Otto Bauer died of a heart attack in Paris .

The Otto Bauer badge is reserved for members of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ). It was and is given primarily to resistance fighters , survivors of the Holocaust and contemporary witnesses , but also to those born later who have earned services in the fight against right-wing radicalism and fascism . Since 2001, non-Austrians have also received awards. The ceremony takes place in Mauthausen concentration camp on a case-by-case basis .

In 2014 it was decided to create a Rosa Jochmann badge . "It should be awarded to well-deserved anti-fascists inside and outside the social democracy."
